We have some bad news for Grand Theft Auto fans who thought the sixth instalment of the franchise was coming their way next yer
Over the past few days, some GTA Online players have reported seeing a pop-up during gameplay, which claims to be a 'Rockstar Message' revealing that Grand Theft Auto VI is coming in 2019.
Over the past few days, some GTA Online players have reported seeing a pop-up during gameplay, which claims to be a 'Rockstar Message' revealing that Grand Theft Auto VI is coming in 2019.
The news understandably got many fans excited, but there was also a high level of scepticism, considering the message was only reported by PS3, Windows PC and Xbox 360 users – all formats where players can use mods.
Responding to a gamer questioning the pop-ups on Twitter, Rockstar Games confirmed that it was nothing more than a hoax.
"This is a hoax made with the use of mods, and not an official message or statement from Rockstar Games," the company's official Twitter account wrote.
Of course we have to believe that GTA VI will be coming sometime in the (hopefully) near future, as it's been nearly five years since the last instalment.
GTA V was released in 2013 and went on to become a massive success worldwide, selling 90 million copies and making $6 billion for Rockstar.
And back in April a report from Dow Jones' investment website Marketwatch concluded that GTA V was the highest-grossing media title of all time.
Meanwhile, Rockstar Games is currently busy preparing to release Red Dead Redemption 2,which will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on October 26, 2018.
